Black Friday on Ebay

"Kiwi Trio"
8"x8", acrylic on canvas board
Incidentally...I totally spelled Kiwi wrong on the listing....I don't know how that happened, but I can't change it. :)

First Thanksgiving down...2 more to go!

I feel very grateful that we still get together with my Dad's side and celebrate Thanksgiving. It's always fun to see my aunts and uncles, cousins, and second-cousins!

At this time of year I like to list many of my older paintings on ebay in hopes that they will find a new home over the holidays. The painting above is one of the many paintings that start at a 1 $ bid on ebay. These make unusual stocking stuffers or possibly gifts for friends and family.

1 $ Wednesday

"Weadgies" ©2010
SOLD

It’s Wednesday and time for another 1 $ deal! On Wednesday’s during the summer I try to post an older painting that has been hanging around my house. This is painting number 34.

We just returned from our annual family vacation in Colorado. I had a great time seeing my brother and sister; nieces and nephews; and mom and dad. Can't wait for next year! Now it's time to unpack and get paintings ready to ship...Thank you!

Strawberries and Cream

No. 242, 6"x6", oil on Gessoboard
SOLD

I'm just finally learning to like strawberries.

This is the last of the instant milk paintings for a while. It turns into a nice yogurt-ish consistency when it sits out for a few days. :)

Lemon Days

"Lemon Days"
©2011 Heather Hingst Bennett
6"x6", oil on hardboard
A bittersweet start to painting. There's always that first painting after you have taken a break. The paintings that I dub "not so good" usually end up growing on me. AND they usually sell. I kid you not! I'm always very surprised. So, it just goes to show you that you are your own worse critic.

I've also decided that I'm just going to be painting Monday - Friday. I think I need to let myself take some breaks.

AND my exciting thought is...more torn collage paintings!
AND how about a COLLAGE - ALONG very soon!
SO start saving your colorful junk mail!!

Shot of Cherries - SOLD

"Shot of Cherries"
©2011 Heather Hingst Bennett
6"x6", oil on hardboard

I apologize...this painting is still wet and I had to photograph it instead of scanning it, so I can see I'm getting a glare on the cherries. I'll replace the picture as soon as the paint dries.

I have finally learned that I like to paint on a surface that has a little bit of tooth and have been using a clear gesso on my panels before I start painting. It helps my paint from sliding around too much.

If you have a moment, click on "paintings" above. I'm slowly, but surely making a little gallery page. Eventually I will have all paintings completed from this year and last year displayed with a link to the blog post.

Starting tomorrow, I'll be featuring a small art quilt every Tuesday and I'm calling this little break in painting "Textile Tuesday".

3 in 3

February 28 :: “Red Alert – Lipstick”
March 1 :: “Orange Crush”
March 2 :: “That Way”
pictured from left to right

Three paintings completed in 3 days…yes, I’m back at the “daily painting” challenge. I’m trying to paint a painting a day for the month of March. Hopefully, if I can do it for 31 days I can continue and do a full year of paintings.

"a wonderful pair"

"A Wonderful Pair"

Here's one of the commissions I have been working on. My sister-in-law asked me to make this for her brother and his wife as a wedding gift. It has their names through out along with their wedding date. I hope they like it! :)

A little play on words.

I spent the day getting almost all my daily paintings on Etsy. Except for this one, it went on Ebay. Tomorrow I'm going to be announcing a sale in my Etsy store. Just a little way to celebrate getting my gallery online. Stay tuned!

Some orange slices to go with the lemon wedges.

Happy Father's Day to all the fathers out there!

bedtime stories

Most nights I have to do a little reading before I can go to sleep. I just finished "The Brightest Star In the Sky" by Marian Keyes. I would highly recommend it. It's a very entertaining story with many interesting characters hooking up with each other and then breaking up with each other. There's a little "voice" throughout the book that's looking for something and that's all I'm going to say, because I don't want to ruin it if you decide to read it.

I just realized I have failed to read The Great Gatsby. Seriously, what kind of high school education did I get? So, that's going to be my next book.

Have you read any good books lately?

Today I nailed my painting! I am doing the happy painter dance...:) On August 27, last year I painted my very first still life. As you can see, I have improved! Amazing what a year can do!

In other news I'm anxiously awaiting my new scanner. I'm very excited to be offering prints in my etsy shop SOON!!

Now I must go run some errands...ta-ta!

I was going to keep going with the asparagus, but it just wasn't working so I switched to a lemon. Many emotions were experienced painting today. There was a point when I was just about to walk away from it all. I just kept painting and I do like how it turned out today.

Can you believe it's Friday? I can't! I hope you have a lovely weekend! I'm having a girls night out tonight with my friends Anne and Melanie (Melanie doesn't have a blog)! Fun!!

no. 030 - "two stars"

© 2010 Heather Hingst Bennett
“Two Stars"
6″ x 6"
oil on gesso board

My son was very excited one day when he came home from school and told me that apples have stars in them! If you cut an apple through it's core you will see it.

I am having such a hard time keeping on schedule. I know when it's time for my son to go back to school I'll have a groove going and then I'll have to change all over again! That's life!

I really like to get my daily painting done right away so I don't have to worry about it. Lately things keep coming up! I also have to pick a time when I think I'll have the least interruptions. Thinking about being interrupted will deter me from painting more than anything.

For example today I had to be somewhere by 1:00. I couldn't start my painting before so, I just tried to get other stuff done. I could have had my painting done, but I don't want to feel rushed! OH WELL!!

I really like todays painting because the colors remind me of my grandmothers. The blue green color reminds me of my mother's mother, Beth Muller, and the pink background and the red of the apples remind me of my father's mother, Eula Marie Hingst.
