Ethel - 208

sold

I have started a series of small acrylic painting that are called “Polaroids.” They are approximately 6-1/4″ x 4-11/16″ on Canson Acrylique acid free paper. I have signed, titled, and dated each on the front in pencil and on the back in archival ink.

When I finished this painting today, the flowers reminded me of a textile print from the 1950s. So, I thought “Ethel” would be a good title.

I knew when I purchased these flowers they were on their way out. But, I fell in love with their pink little ruffles. I’m enjoying these acrylic paintings and think I will continue with them for awhile.

Pink Shadow - 205

SOLD.

Thought I’d play with some acrylics. If I could only get better with this medium, I would probably switch to it permanently. It’s so nice to just clean up with water! Not to mention, they dry quick so I could post them in “real time”!

I also had to try them with the cup and saucer.

The Cup and Saucer - 203

“The Cup and Saucer”, 4″x4″, oil on gessoboard, ©2013 Heather Hingst Bennett

At first I thought I hadn’t learned anything after painting 200 paintings. I felt that I hadn’t improved much, but when I painted this I started feeling the light bulbs go on. Painting a cup and saucer at this angle has caused me a bit of frustration in the past, but I think I got it mostly right this time. Unfortunately, the values have all turned out very similar. That’s why there is always another painting.

Happy Monday!

The owner of this mitten went back to school today! Albeit he hasn’t worn it in 9 years and I can’t find the other one!

SLIPCOVER UPDATE: It’s coming along and looking good. The project is going a little slower than I thought it would. I highly, highly recommend the slipcover tutorials on Miss Mustard Seeds blog. Go over there and check it out! It’s really good and FREE!

Hattie Block - 200

I have officially reached my 200th painting! I'm trying to think of some sort of contest we can have to celebrate.

This weekend (starting tomorrow) I'm dragging out the sewing machine and I'm going to get my slipcover project done once a for all!! I have been inspired by Gina at The Shabby Creek Cottage to finish this project. This summer I purchased the The Lazy Girl's Guide to Custom Slipcovers and I'm also armed with a tutorial from Miss Mustard Seed.

So, RIGHT ON, I can do this!
