My Muse

"My Muse", 7" x 5", oil on carton panel, ©2013 Heather Hingst Bennett
No. 219 SOLD

I have been eyeing dress forms on Amazon for a few years now and FINALLY got one for Christmas. She is going to come in handy for a series of vintage fashion paintings I want to do.

I was a visual merchandiser for a local department store at one time, so I spent many hours dressing, staging, and rearranging dress forms and merchandise. It was a pretty fun job.

I haven't picked out a name yet. Any suggestions?

No. 189 & 190

No. 190
First of all I have to say that I am not pleased with my latest paintings. For some reason I have had a hard time painting this year. For every one painting that I feel is OK, I wipe at lease 5...or more.

This week I have been trying to apply less paint and working more in layers. We shall see what happens!

The paintings to the left are from last week. No. 189 was a wipe and No. 190 was ALMOST a wipe, but for some reason I decided to keep it. Maybe just to have at least one painting completed for the week.
No. 189 - wiped

October 10, 2012

No. 188

"Drama Queen", 5"x7", oil on carton panel, ©2012 Heather Hingst Bennett

Just in case you were watching "Dorothy" finally made it up on ebay last night.

This is "Drama Queen", which is how I feel when I paint these shoes. They are much more complicated than an apple, lime, flower or cup! I have actually had to do some preliminary sketches, but I'm happy with how they turned out.

Getting pretty close to 200 paintings...maybe I'll have a giveaway. :)

No. 102 Orange Roses

7"x5", acrylic on paper

This is painting 102 for the year!

My daughter told me on Saturday that she wanted to move back home. So, I've been busy cleaning out my studio to turn it back into a bedroom for her. I don't know where I'm going to be painting...probably anywhere I can find space.

I love Blue Flowers

"Blue Flowers From My Imagination"
5"x7", acrylic on paper

I have a thing for blue flowers! I'm not much of a print girl, but when I see something with blue flowers I'm instantly drawn to it.

So, what have I decided to do next...Well, of course, it's keep painting! But I've decided to switch it up a bit. I've decided it's time to get into a local gallery. Which means I'm going to start working bigger until I have enough pieces to approach a gallery for representation. I'm going to try to keep creating a painting every week day AND for the remainder of the month of October I'm going to be working in acrylics. I'm trying to go for a loose, painterly feel.

Thanks for stopping by!

"Paper Flowers"

"Paper Flowers"
©2011 Heather Hingst Bennett
5"x7", oil on canvas board

This is my favorite painting so far this year. I think it really defines where I want my paintings to go. Lots of white and pastels colors. Also how I want to redecorate my house.

Very cottage, very shabby chic!

These are actually flowers that I made about a year ago. If you want to make some to just visit my old blog.
