On the Easel : A Maybe

No. 294, 6″ x 6″, oil on gessoboard

It’s good to be back painting still life again! The dress above is a maybe for a wedding I’ll be attending and it’s “a maybe” because I think I could have painted it better. A little rusty with the oil paints, but I knew that would be the case. I’m trying not to dwell on it too much.

Summer went by so fast! I had a great time doing some, but not enough, sketching and improvisational painting.

I’ve been thinking of making some changes to my blog/social media practices. When I work in oils, I usually don’t get a very good photo of my painting until it dries and I scan it so, I think I’m just going to post “on the easel” pics to Instagram. Then when the painting is dry and available for purchase, I’ll post it here.

Also…Wednesdays are going to be “Watercolor Wednesday’s”. I’ve been using watercolors all summer and truly enjoy them. I hope to get much better at them and I’ll be sharing some of my watercolor work on Wednesday’s.

Intermission

Since I have been doing such a great job NOT painting, I thought I would embrace it and enjoy the summer. My son has exactly only 1 month left of summer and then he will be back to school and I will be heading back into the studio.

I have enrolled in a few online classes this summer. The one I am in right now is Sketchbook Skool’s Seeing course. So far it has been great and I’ll be posting my assignments on Flickr and Instagram. I’ll share those links with you once I get something posted.

My Etsy shop is still open and don’t forget to check out my deals on Ebay.

Last week my kids and I headed out on a photo shoot. I have been wanting to paint some landscapes, so we drove out into the country to get inspired. The photo above is from that trip.

Have a great summer! See you soon!

I have been enjoying my first week of an online Intuitive Painting class with Flora Bowley. The class is more about creating abstract work, but I thought it would be great to apply what I’m learning to still life as well. Below are 2 paintings I’ve been working on this past week for my class.

Catch

No. 290, 4" x 4", oil on gessoboard

This will be the last "dog" ball for now. My dog, Zoe, is relieved that I won't be painting anymore of her toys. She doesn't really like to share, but she does LOVE to play CATCH! She's very good at it and would play for hours if she found someone willing to throw the ball for hours.

Buds

No. 289, 6" x 6" oil on gessoboard

I love the contrast of the delicate rose buds and the beer bottle.

I painted this and then went to visit my "mumsie".

Another Ball

It was raining so, I had to paint inside today. My dog, Zoe, made sure to stay close while I was painting. I guess she didn't trust me with her favorite toy.

A Ball

This painting is my first attempt at painting outdoors. It was a beautiful morning so I collected all my paint supplies and headed to the backyard. It's amazing how wonderful colors look in real sunlight. I just chose a simple subject, but something I have never painted before...a ball. And not just any ball, this is my dog Zoe's birthday ball. She loves to "Get the ball!"
